Programs

CIPAD programs revolve around the three pillars of CIPAD engagement which are good governance, socio-economic development and peaceful coexistence.
Currently, CIPAD is conducting programs in the following thematic areas:

Good governance and civic education:

CIPAD conducts good governance and civic education programs with an aim of creating an informed, empowered and engaged citizens in promotion of good governance at the Counties. Currently CIPAD is conducting a project title; “Political education and public sensitization on BBI [Building Bridges Initiative] in Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties” in partnership with the Safeguarding Democratic Space in Kenya project (SADES-K) implemented by FHI 360 with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The goal of this project is to sensitize the public on the BBI process so that they are able to make informed choices during the anticipated referendum. The program is also aimed at helping the citizens to understand about how the County government functions, roles played by different arms of the County government, citizen rights and how they can participate in promotion of good governance at the Counties. This will enable the citizens to get actively engaged in governance in order to demand for service delivery and accountability from the leaders which will promote good governance at the Counties.

Conflict management and peace building:

CIPAD works in promotion of
peaceful coexistence and cohesion among various communities in the
Counties in Kenya. Where there are active conflicts, CIPAD helps in conflict
management through empowerment and establishment of local conflict
resolution mechanisms. Where the conflict has been managed CIPAD works
in peace building through addressing the drivers of conflict and promoting
cohesion and integrations of the communities that were engaged in the
conflict. Currently, CIPAD is working on the intertribal conflict that exists
between Tharaka and Tigania subtribes of Meru Tribe. This is a historical
conflict that has existed for a long period and that has caused a lot of suffering
to the people living at the border between the two counties. CIPAD is currently
working on addressing this conflict in order to pacify the conflict and lead to
conflict transformation in the area.
