About us

Citizens for Peace and Development (CIPAD) is a Kenyan not-for-profit organization established in 2018 and legally registered in 2020. We work with communities to create opportunities for young people and women to participate, lead, innovate, and build more resilient and sustainable futures.

Who We Are

CIPAD was founded in response to the persistent challenges limiting the ability of young people and women to realize their full potential—including unemployment and limited economic opportunities, social exclusion, inadequate participation in decision-making, climate-related vulnerabilities, and unequal access to resources and services.

We envision a future where young people and women are not merely beneficiaries of development, but active agents of change—equipped with the knowledge, skills, opportunities, networks, and confidence to shape their own futures and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

We aspire to see peaceful, inclusive, resilient, and self-reliant communities where everyone can live with dignity and thrive.

CIPAD takes a community-driven, partnership-based, and solutions-oriented approach to development. We work alongside communities to identify opportunities, strengthen local capacities, connect people to resources and markets, and support locally owned solutions. We combine grassroots knowledge with technical expertise, innovation, strategic partnerships, and evidence to deliver programs that are relevant, inclusive, and sustainable.

Our approach is grounded in four principles:

  • People-centred development – putting the aspirations, dignity, and lived experiences of communities at the centre of our work.
  • Inclusion and equity – ensuring that women, youth, and marginalized groups have meaningful opportunities to participate and benefit.

  • Partnership and collaboration – bringing together communities, government, civil society, private sector, and development actors to achieve greater impact.
  • Sustainability and resilience – promoting solutions that strengthen livelihoods, institutions, communities, and their ability to withstand social, economic, and environmental shocks.

CIPAD is non-partisan, non-discriminatory, and independent, with no political, ethnic, religious, or cultural affiliation.

We believe that every person deserves dignity, equal opportunity, and the ability to participate in decisions that affect their lives. We therefore strive to ensure that our programs are accessible and responsive to people regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, social or economic status, or political affiliation.

Gender equality, youth participation, social inclusion, climate justice, human dignity, and social justice are embedded across our work.

  • Vision: Inclusive, resilient, and empowered communities where youth and women thrive.
  • Mission: To empower youth and women to lead change, create sustainable livelihoods, and build inclusive and resilient communities.
  •  Goal: To contribute to a more just, peaceful, and sustainable society where every person is able to realize their full potential and live a dignified life free from poverty and injustice.
