Empowering Citizens to Actively Participate in Governance

Democratic governance is stronger when citizens understand their rights, responsibilities, and the processes through which they can influence decisions that affect their lives.

Through this project, CIPAD worked with communities in Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties to strengthen civic knowledge and encourage citizens to participate actively in county governance and public affairs.

The project focused on civic education, citizen participation, and engagement with governance processes, helping communities better understand their role in shaping local development.

A lasting resource for civic education

As part of the project, CIPAD developed and published a Citizens’ Handbook on Good Governance, providing communities with a practical resource to support continued civic education and citizen engagement.

The project reached more than 10,000 people, contributing to greater awareness of governance processes and the importance of active citizenship.
